TBI Data Analysts Meeting at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE)
Reported by: Jim Higley
Mr. Higley works for Spin Systems as Program Execution Manager and CarePoint Project Lead and has supported the Medical Data Services (MDS) contract with the National Information Warfare Center (NIWC) for the past 7 years. During the training he provided an overview of the CarePoint Information Portal and the Presentation Layer within the MHS Information Platform (MIP).
Dr. Jesus Caban and the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) Informatics team conducted on-site training December 9th for Analysts and Researchers supporting the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) community, including 5 Analysts from the Spin Systems team (Mike Akama, Conethra Burt-Kelley, Jasmon Maxwell, Collin Stoffel, and Andrew Valentine). The training provided a broad overview of how users are currently leveraging existing enterprise capabilities provided by DHA’s Enterprise Intelligence and Data Solutions (EIDS) division to enable data analysis, research, data collection, longitudinal tracking, and innovation.
The training started with an overview of the MHS Information Platform (MIP) and the TBI clinical workflow to provide an understanding of the MIP architecture and how the clinical workflow is translated to data. Demos of the TBI and DHA Survey Portal applications were conducted to familiarize Analysts and Researchers with application features that can be utilized at their own Medical Treatment Facilities (MTF) to manage the TBI clinical workflow. Later in the week, an introduction to data analysis, predictive analytics, and data science tools and techniques was presented, including the ingestion, translation, and presentation of data using tools such as SQL, R, Python, and Tableau.
